Funny how time just seems to get away from you! Over the past 11 months, another craft show season has come and gone, my Etsy sites have been very busy, and we've grown as a family!

Our daughter was married on August 6th, adding a new son-in-law to our family. We had so much fun preparing for her Victorian-style wedding, and it was absolutely beautiful. Things never go quite as planned, though, and her wedding was no exception. Three days prior to her wedding, my husband was rushed to the hospital and ended up fighting for his life in the ICU for almost two weeks before he was well enough to come home. He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress, and septic shock. Before being sedated and put on life support, he asked for us to continue with her wedding, and to make it a beautiful day for her. He also asked our son to walk our daughter down the aisle. She carried his photo in her bouquet. I left him for a few hours to attend the wedding. His survival was a miracle and against the odds, and we count our blessings every day that he is still with us. It was a very difficult time, and one we are glad is behind us. His recovery is ongoing, and most of the fall and winter has been spent caring for him to help restore him back to health.

It was a fun and successful craft show season, and I loved adding my daughter, Emily, to my shows! I am so proud of her and all of her craftiness! Glad some of that rubbed off on her! We are having a blast with our Etsy site, Lottie Elizabeth. Check it out here and our website here.

I have recently revamped my website. All of my patterns are still available, but my website now directs to my Etsy site for ordering. This has allowed me to have epatterns - how 85% of my patterns are sold, able to be downloaded immediately. I still can send any of my patterns as paper patterns...just use the order form on my website. See my website here.

It has been a long, hard winter here in Southwest Washington! We've had multiple damaging ice storms, and have had snow since December 8th! There isn't much left now, but there were snowflakes falling this morning. I just wanted to crawl back into bed and stay there until it's 70 degrees! Our lambs will begin arriving in about 4 weeks. That always means spring is here, right!?!

Wishing you a blessed spring!
Didn't I just say in my last post that I wasn't going to be so busy this year with weddings?! Well, oldest daughter, Ashley just got engaged, and we're planning another wedding for August! LOVE wedding planning, however, so this makes me very pleased! As this will be a Victorian wedding at an 1850's historic Victorian house, we are having a super time coming up with decorating ideas!
On my way, with two new patterns this last week. Here they are:

Speaking of spring, it kinda looked like spring here today! It was in the 50's and my crocuses are blooming, and the daffodils are coming up! It's still just the middle of winter though, so I haven't packed up my snowmen and winter decorations. That would just be asking for it!

Sadie Sue

My other new pattern is Sadie Sue. She was fun little girl to make! This little ragamuffin with the wild hair is just 9" tall, so she doesn't take much fabric to stitch her up! She's on my website, Pattern Mart, and here on Etsy too.

I've been having a great time with my other Etsy site; Lottie Elizabeth that I started last summer with my daughter Emily. If you haven't checked it out, take a peek here! It's fun working on things that aren't primitive. Here are some cute Valentine's Day/Heart things that I created:

Abbie Rose is a Great Pyrenees; and half sister to our almost-five-year-old, Heidi. We've found that Great Pyrs are a perfect addition to our farm, as they are great livestock protectors as well as family members! They also grow extremely fast! Here is Abbie at 6 weeks old the day we brought her home.
We had two kids get married within 4 months of each other! Our son recently married his sweetheart in a beautiful outdoor ceremony. Not quite as much planning on our part - as parents of the groom, but I made all the wedding desserts, and we threw a rehearsal dinner and did all the cooking and DIY decorating.
Here are some photos from our rehearsal dinner. It was like having our own restaurant for the day! Daughter Kari made the beautiful cake.

The bride and groom decided to have pie at the wedding rather than cake (but we had to sneak one in on them at the rehearsal dinner!) They cut a full-size pie to feed to each other, but I made 195 mini pies and crisps in jars, as well as 72 mini cheesecakes and over 100 shortbread cookies. The pies in jars were a lot of fun, and really quite easy with a lot of prep ahead of time.

I bought 16 dozen 3 oz. jars and had them washed ahead of time. A week prior to the wedding I made up the pie dough, and added a little sugar. I bought a set of graduated circle cookie cutters with regular circles on one side, and the opposite side was fluted. I used a smaller round cutter to cut out the bottoms of the pies, and poked them with a fork. I cut out the top of the pies with the fluted circles in a little larger size, and used a tiny heart cutter to cut out the middle. Then I sprinkled them with coarse sugar and baked the tops and bottoms like cookies. I froze them all (with plenty extra). Two days before the wedding I thickened and sweetened the berries, and just assembled the mini pies, since the pastries were already baked. The pie jars never went in the oven at all! The crisps were just a little different. I put the thickened berries in the jars and added the crumb topping to the top. Those went in the the microwave for a few minutes.

I had so much fun with wedding prep this year, that I opened another Etsy shop - LottieElizabeth - with our daughter Emily, featuring wedding and baby items. You can check it out here. Now it's time to step on it with primitive Christmas things for my fall shows that start in a little over three months. Yikes!

Hope your summer is wonderful!
First you'll need to "season" your chalkboard, which simply means that you rub it all over with chalk. Then wipe it off with a paper towel, leaving some of the white chalk residue behind. Next I designed on the computer the words that I wanted. Use some fun fonts. I transferred this design onto my chalkboard, using white transfer paper, which I found at my local craft store. Then, just fill in the lettering with either a white chalk pen, such as the one shown here:
or if you'd rather it be more permanent, you may wish to use a white Sharpie marker. Once done, rub it with chalk again. Simple! Below are some examples of some chalkboard signs that I made for Emily's wedding.

I also made some chalkboard props for our photo booth at the wedding. These I designed using a chalkboard background (see previous post) and the font Schalk in white.

The top photo is with the bride - our daughter Emily - with our twins - Kari and Kaitlyn (two of the six bridesmaids), and her sweet little twin flower girls, who happen to have their 6th birthday today! Oh, by the way, I sewed the little flower girl dresses. So much fun, and I really miss sewing cute little girl clothing!

The photo booth was a big hit at the wedding, and a wedding gift provided by some dear friends of ours. The guests were provided with hard copies of their photos, as well as a business card with a link to all the photos online.

A month ago we had the lovely wedding of our daughter and new son-in-law, and now we've moved on to lambing here on our farm.

Emily was our first child to marry, and throwing a wedding was time-consuming, but something that I thoroughly enjoyed! In the next few posts, I will focus on some of the DIY projects we did for her wedding.

First, here are the invitations we designed. Invitations have changed considerably since my husband and I were married 30 years ago. No longer are they necessarily ordered from a company with 2 envelopes, the paper liner, and as formal as they used to be. Many brides just use postcards or even wedding websites to correspond with their guests. We designed these on my computer using various graphics and fonts, and ordered them from Overnight Prints. I am crazy about this company and all of the products and great prices that they offer! I used textured navy cardstock and made folders with a flap to hold the RSVP postcard, an info card, and an engagement photo of the couple. It was tied up with ribbon.

There is one other thing we ordered from Overnight Prints, which was a super good deal! Emily and I loved the chalkboard look, and before I realized that it was possible and really fun to make chalkboards, I ordered a poster sized print of a chalkboard that I designed on PicMonkey. It was super fun to make!

PicMonkey is a great website for altering photos. To make this, I looked online for a chalkboard background and found one in a large resolution. I trimmed it on PicMonkey to be the start size that Overnight Prints suggests for their posters. (These posters were only $2.99 at the time I ordered - and that's a big 18" x 24" size!) Next I downloaded fonts that I liked free on the internet. Below are some great free fonts, and you can find out how to download them here.

Anyway, from PicMonkey, you can use their fonts or your own. Arrange your chalkboard how you like using the fonts and graphics of your choosing. Change them to white. Once the poster arrived, I mounted it on some stained wood and rubbed over it with some chalk to make it look more like it was hand-lettered.

Like I said, "before I realized that it was possible and really fun to make chalkboards.....", in my next post I will show you and tell you how I learned how fun it is, (and how easy too!) to make some cool looking chalkboard art.

Oh yes....I mentioned it is lambing time here on the farm. We have currently 9 little lambs (5 born in the last 2 hours!) Here is a photo of Emily with a lamb this evening. (While she is married now, and lives in an apartment in town, you can't take the farmgirl out of the farm, and she's back for her farm fix lots....much to our great happiness!)

My daughters and I at Emily's Bridal Shower in December

Happy New Year! This will be a very special year for our family! We have two weddings! First, our daughter Emily will marry her childhood sweetheart on March 7th! We are so excited! Lots of planning going on, and that is the primary reason I have been lacking in any new activity in the pattern department! I got through all my Christmas shows, and dug in big-time with wedding planning! Not to fear, after March 7th I will start cranking out some new designs! :)

The next wedding to follow will be when our son Lukas marries his lovely fiancee on July 20th. While there is less for us to do for that wedding, we are planning a fun wedding rehearsal dinner, and I will be baking all of the wedding mason jar pies and cheesecakes! Yum! :)

Don't forget that my patterns are always available on my website, as well as Etsy, and PatterMart. You can also follow me on Pinterest. Have a warm and safe winter, and I'll see you soon!
As usual, I keep way too busy in the summer to keep up with my blog! This summer, in addition to our usual week at the fair, we had a road trip to California, three road trips to Eastern Washington, our daughter Emily got engaged (!), and I worked on decorating and furnishing our twin daughter's college apartment.

The girls were given some furniture that was very much in need of a makeover if they were going to use it! I wish I would've taken "before" pictures, but I honestly thought some of these things were not salvageable and would end up going to the dump, so I didn't bother!

This cute couch came to us as an ugly, ugly metal futon! With a couple of canvas drop cloths from Home Depot, we were able to turn it into something adorable! My inspiration came from here).

I recovered some pillows with some upholstery fabric from Hobby Lobby and Walmart, and made a red burlap pillow and stenciled a "K" on it.

The girls made the coffee table and end table, and were so proud of themselves! My girls are farm girls through and through, and the most difficult thing about being away from home is missing all the critters! I needle-felted a sheep from some wool from one of their favorite ewes.

Above the couch hangs a photo taken at their last fair as 4-Hers this summer, showing off the big belt buckles they both earned! I printed the photo through Shutterfly and mounted it on a canvas picked up at Hobby Lobby.

This grouping was made from canvases we covered. The sheep was cut from black wool and mounted on red burlap. The "farmgirls forever" photo was taken in our fields, printed on canvas (see instructions here), and then mounted on an artist's canvas.
One of the girls was given this nightstand and matching dresser and it didn't really go with the hot pink quilt she had her first year of college in the dorm! We decided to purchase this cute comforter from Target, and pull the room together with some throw pillows we stitched, a new lamp shade (also from Target) and a home made banner. This was created in less than an hour using some jute and 8 sheets of 12 x 12 heavy scrapbook paper!

For our other daughter's room, I painted up an ugly, beat up, yucky stained dresser with the same chalk paint I used on the table. I also sprayed the brass knobs black. This horrid dresser I was embarrassed to even be seen purchasing at Goodwill for $29 now looks great!

Summertime is in full swing here on Prindle Mountain! We just got done shearing our sheep, and ready to start cutting, baling, and hauling tons of hay. First though, we're taking time out to enjoy this Independence Day, and celebrate this awesome country that we are blessed to live in! Happy 4th of July!

Just had to post the gorgeous drawing that my cousin Beth did of our beloved Bailey Jo. We lost Bailey to bone cancer in November 2012. She was a Great Pyrenees, and the sweetest dog ever!

This is Bailey (on the right) with our pup, Heidi. Heidi is now 3, and a very big girl! Great Pyrenees are livestock guardians. We raise sheep, and these dogs have an inborn ability to bond with the sheep and keep them out of harms way. Coyotes and cougars regularly took our lambs before we got Bailey. Great Pyrenees are also very loving, intelligent dogs, and while they are great against predators, they are very gentle around people.

Anyway, back to the drawing! Beth surprised me with this gorgeous sketch she did of Bailey Jo with a lamb. It was so touching to receive at my surprise birthday party! She is an amazing artist, and you may want to check out her other work by clicking here.

I've gotten entirely too addicted to Ancestry.com lately! Family history has always been so interesting to me, and I've been able to trace our family back farther than I could ever have imagined!
Here's my newest pattern: Lollipop! She was designed in honor of Shirley Temple. We have a fondness for Shirley Temple. She was such an adorable and talented little girl, and grew up to be a gracious, beautiful, compassionate woman. The world lost a treasure when she passed recently. I was going to give her blond hair like Shirley Temple has, but she just looked better with her standard Raggedy Ann red hair!

This wasn't my first experience with sewing a Shirley Temple dress. When our daughter Emily was a junior in high school, she had to do a famous person report and she chose Shirley Temple. Here's a photo of Emily in her outfit!

Today was a sad day at our house! Our sweet Ella Jean was very ill and we had to let her go. She was my daughter's cat; and she's had her for 10 years since she was just nine years old. She happens to be home from college for Spring Break, so she was here with Ella when we had to take her in for her last vet appointment. It was sudden, totally unexpected, and broke our hearts! Rest in peace, Sweet Ella Jean! :( If you have a cat or a dog, go hug them! They just aren't here with us nearly long enough!

Just finished this little gal today! I've never made a blonde raggedy before, but I had an order recently for my Kaitlyn Ann doll in blonde, so I thought I'd try a blonde doll. Alice Ann is the result! She is 11" tall, and was actually a lot of fun to make! I just put the pattern on my Etsy, PatternMart, and my website.

I actually have a little niece that is 21 months old whose name is Alice. I'm thinking this may be her second birthday present! She has two middle names, but one of them is Ann. My Grandmother's name was also Alice. I've blogged about her before. She's gone now, but she would've loved this little doll. She loved dolls. She was raised on the prairies of Montana and didn't have a lot of toys growing up, so she always loved dolls and stuffed animals. I made her several dolls while she was alive. I sure miss my Grandma! I do have this picture of her with a doll. It always makes me smile! :)
Didn't I just say I was ready for spring? Guess I jinxed it, because we woke up to snow on Saturday morning, and then it turned to freezing rain. Ice built up all day Saturday and Sunday; an inch and a half thick!
We have trees down everywhere, and branches litter the yard. It's going to be such a big clean up! Worst of all, my 1965 Mustang, which had been planned to be a project car, lost it's back window and received a big dent in the top! Boo hoo! :(

During all this, the power was out all day Sunday, and we had 5 lambs born during this time; a set of twins, and triplets at 3:30 a.m.! Going up to the barn to check on the sheep overnight felt like I was risking my life (literally!) as chunks of ice as big as a basketball fell out of the trees!
I am SO ready for spring now! We need a nice weekend to begin the huge job of clean up! At least I'll get a bonfire out of the deal, and maybe a s'more or two?! Gotta look on the bright side!

Prim (warm, sun-shiny!) blessings to you!
My whole table was covered with them! I just listed them on Etsy, and plan to work on patterns for three of them over the weekend. Here they are:

Here are Benny Bear and Gracie. These two were so much fun to sew! I first discovered plush felt for my snowmen. Who knew making these guys would be so much fun with this versatile fabric?! These guys will be patterns.

This sweet girl is Betsy Bunny. She's also made from plush felt, and I just love how her dress turned out! The collar is made from the corner of a vintage cloth tea napkin. I don't know if I will be able to part with Betsy! She'll also be a new pattern.

Meet Barnaby! Half the fun of creating these critters is coming up with names for them! He just looked like a Barnaby to me! He is also made from plush felt that has been aged and antiqued. He's the final pattern I plan to make this weekend.

Now, these are the kind of chocolate bunnies you can never have too many of! Guaranteed to be calorie-free! :) These little cuties are stitched from my Mister Bun E. Rabbit pattern that is now 10 years old! I used a different fabric (the original, shown below, was stitched from terry cloth).

I can't wait to start sewing some Easter bunnies, but in the meantime, I finished some burlap banners that I put on my Etsy. You can see them here. These were kind of fun! I made some for my Christmas shows, and thought I'd see how they do on Etsy.
We had a week of some real nasty snow, and drifts up to 6' high! Finally got it plowed and now it's warmed up and raining. Just in time for our lambs to start showing up! Today our first little lamb was born, and more are sure to be arriving any time!
It is a boy snowman that was a special-order to go with my Frosty Snowfriends. So, I made him in to a pattern, and he is called Mr. Frost E. Snowfellow.
I just love snowmen...because you can decorate with them way after Christmas! Heck, it's only been a few weeks since winter even started! He is available as a paper pattern or an e-pattern.
